[...] Wayne Weiseman demonstrated how to make a rocket stove and an A-Frame for measuring the contours of the Earth to build swales — a rainwater harvesting and soil conservation strategy popularized by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison. We scouted around Crazy Rooster Farm to identify the best spots to install some swales and found it on the north slope of the first woodlot. Swales in a Permaculture design are designed to slow and capture runoff by spreading it horizontally across the landscape in an elevation contour line, hence the use of the A-frame. The Crazy Rooster Farm Permaculture students measured the contours with the A-frame today. [...]

Hello,

A friend of mine and I are planning a Southern Illinois chicken coop tour for Sunday, June 6th. Since you are involved in trying to change zoning in the city of Carbondale, we thought we would ask you to join in the fun.

Anything that we can do to help your cause? Our emphasis for this first ever So. Il. tour is educating people about raising chickens and letting people get a feel for what it's like having chickens for neighbors. This will be a free, self guided tour.

Debbie Thomas of the Carbondale Times is helping me organize and promote. We expect this to be a well received family event.

I hope to hear from you soon,
Heather
