The Permaculture Project LLC

Educational Overview

“Modern life, with its over valuation of intellectual thinking and its neglect of feeling and willing- especially in education- forms man’s physical constitution in a pathologically one-sided way. This raises once again the deep connection of education and healing…All education should be healing, just as all healing must ultimately be educational.” – Rudolf Steiner

The Permaculture Project LLC believes strongly that life and learning are inseparable. Experience and study provide us with the knowledge to answer fundamental questions. This enables us to live a full and functional life in a changing world. The journey demands constant observation, evaluation, discrimination and introspection. The Permaculture Project LLC teaches and facilitates the learning of skills that encourage and inspire learning throughout life.

Everything in nature, including human beings, grows and develops in stages. The teaching and learning process must remain sensitive to these many stages by shaping lessons and activities that promote and develop skills and traits according to time, place and person in the natural order of growth. The art of Permaculture is a design science that integrates the learning of all traditions and cultures, their life and folkways, and the many forms that appropriate technology takes through the diverse intertwining web that is all life.

Permaculture is experiential and hands-on. It calls forth the skills of the entire person and builds dexterity in all areas of life, focusing on ecological  and environmental well-being.

There is great benefit when study is translated into personal experience and participation. Project-based education enlivens a sense of curiosity and wonder by engaging the entire student in the creative process. Small cooperative learning teams promote teamwork, relationship building, communication, feedback and support an atmosphere of openness, sharing and creativity. As a result of working in small teams, participants will have the genuine experience of community at its most basic and dynamic level. This is ideal for learning.
