PDC in Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity Country

We began our Permaculture Course today at Koinonia, which was founded by Clarence Jordan many years ago. Mr Jordan took in share cropper families and sat down to dinner many times with African Americans during a volatile period before and during the Civil Rights movement in Sumter County, Georgia, one of the most racist counties in the country. Clarence Jordan and the community were constantly threatened by the locals who tried to shut them down and run them out of town. But they prevailed. Mr Jordan, when told to sell his land told them, “selling the farm is equivalent to selling my mother”. The land and agriculture was his service to the world. Here are some pictures from the trip down with the family and initial photos of Koinonia. 90 acres of pecans and a full-on farm. Georgia cotton next door.
