The town of Carbondale came out in spades on Tuesday evening to make their voices heard on this water privatization issue. Many of us stood up and spoke our hearts. Because of this it looks as though this issue is “dead in the water”. From all indications, it is still amazing to me that when folks get together no matter the issue than things can happen. Still the whole idea of selling water is a twisted idea. How can we “privatize” our survival. How can any one possibly think that we can patent seeds? Or sue farmers when patented GMO corn happens, just happens, to do what corn will do, shed its pollen to the wind and find other corn to mingle with? How much will a pint of bottled air cost us in the near future? Or canned sunlight? I recently, on the recommendation of a friend, read a book called Technopoly, by Neil Postman, an in depth study of what technology and “science” has perpetrated on all of us. I also recommend this book to all. As though technological fixes are key to our existence? How much longer can we be bought and sold to the corporation? Garden, garden, garden! Start a garden and bask in the simple pleasure of stepping out the back door and harvesting food that is alive. Food that is alive.
