This evening I attended the Sustainability Commission meeting for Carbondale and we had a long discussion about the local ban on livestock (including chickens) within city limits. We put together a motion for raising chickens and goats within the city. This will go to the City Planning Commission (the commissioner runs the sustainability meeting and was way behind all this) for discussion and then it will be up for a vote in the City Council. Everything was very positive. We took it out of livestock mode and explained it in terms of having pets. I look forward to fresh eggs and goat milk for drinking, cheese and yogurt. It is time for us to reconsider the way we run to the grocery store for our sustenance, is it not? I will keep you all posted on the results of the discussion and the vote.
