The Language of Tyranny

Today during our PDC we had a long discussion about words and concepts such as the “Third World” and Developing Nations. Who is it that coined a term like the Third World? The First World? Where exactly do the second and fourth and fifth worlds lie? Does the First World hold precedence above the third? And what exactly is a developing nation? Developing into what? A nation of consumers and polluters, one that is ruled by greed and the machinations and subterfuges of government? Language can be lethal in the way that it controls lives and shifts what is good in people’s hearts to what turns minds and actions into habits dictated by the marketplace. And the scientific understanding of the world? The big bang? Is this the only theory of the creation of the universe that holds any weight? What of countless other creation stories, myths, theories? Are we this locked in to scientific rhetoricians who’s only place in the culture is made real by industry, consumerism and stacks of greenbacks, banks and big box stores? Here is an article that speaks to this tyranny of language and how it manipulates people everywhere and turns us into automatons of the powers that think they be.
