Beach Patterns

Out here on Long Island. There is something about the beach and ocean when it comes to patterns: highly visible, as though the surface is stripped bare. What you see is what you get, nothing hidden, no mystery here. But wait: the flight of a gull, a sandpiper dodging the waves, a brisk wind that rearranges the dunes, plants growing abundantly from what appears to be absent of any organic matter. In essence, mystery persists, but the gleaming surfaces speak a thousand clear and highly visible words…
