Today I visited former student Larry McAuliffe in Battle Creek, Michigan on my way home from teaching a course. Larry is an engineer who was laid off in 2006. He lives on 20 spectacular acres along with family, animals, plants, trees. 80% of what Larry and family consume comes from within 10 miles of home, predominately from his property. I must say that I was floored and inspired to witness this stupendous landscape!
