Some Thoughts on the Art of Permaculture Design

Mimic the architecture of the natural and cosmic world. Cosmic form/natural form. Diverting materials from the waste stream. Qualities: soft/hard, fur/stone. Go deep into each word. Qualities, not quantities. Food production, food forest, mimic these ecosystem architectures. What is the nature of it, the shape, form, texture, relationship, etc? We read the deeper concepts of the words. Metamorphosis of the One. The many are each concrete manifestations of the One. Multiplicity in Unity. Not the other way around. There is no underlying reality behind the appearances, but only the intensive depth of the phenomena. The Archetype that is always generating, birthing. A fundamental appearance within which the manifold is to be seen. The organizing idea in cognitive perception from the phenomena itself. Not imposed on nature, but received from nature. We are not onlookers. The organizing principle itself acting in thinking. See Goethe. Natural succession, metamorphosis. Nothing frozen, nothing too late. A new organ of perception. The multiplicity is already there within the Unity. Select materials based on qualities. What is cover? Crop? Tree? How can we “define” these, uncover these, their essences? What environmental factors regulate the size of populations? Linkages between spatial pattern and processes. How is it powered? What influences its trajectory? The syntax of the ecosystem. Structure/pattern always anew, always changing. Meta-Morphosis. Meta form. Carbon sequestration. Systems that prove fruitful. The scale of permanence and how the site exhibits these to rigorous investigation. Sense organ. How does one express the idea of Love in a building, a landscape? What is the design of Love? “Design for Life”. Path: curved, straight, wide, narrow, etc. House: boxed, circle, what is the nature of a box, a circle? Floor: hard? soft? The qualities of metals, water, wood. What are its intrinsic characteristics, behaviors, products? Barriers? What exactly is a barrier? To what? What does wind do? How does wind move? How is wind born? What color is wind? The architecture of the universe and all its little universes. Nesting functions. Stacking. The core concept. The tree as archetype. Core. The trees will tell us secrets that no one believes. Essence. The qualities of dynamic form. Permaculture. Permanent culture. Say what? Say One. Say the many.
