“Water is the one substance from which the earth can conceal nothing; it sucks out its innermost secrets and brings them to our very lips.”
~ JEAN GIRAUDOUX (1882-1944), The Madwomen of Chaillot, 1946
In the Permaculture Scale of Permanence why is water at the top of the template? Why are climate, landform and water the first steps in our design process? Why infrastructure (land and water) first and all the rest follows? Can you imagine life without water, fish flopping about on dry land, drinking dust, blood as a solid piece of matter? Can you imagine a baby forming in the womb in something the consistency of talcum powder?
