Water Privatization

Recently, in my town of Carbondale, Illinois, we were informed that the mayor wants to sell our water rights to a private company. This privatization of water rights is an audacious act, and quite frankly, a frightening possibility. What’s next, the air? To place in the hands of a corporation bent only on profit this most precious resource, without which we cannot live, seems like the last domino in the line of degradation to fall. We cannot, as aware and sensible human beings, allow this to perpetrate our lives anymore. The rain that falls from our skies falls on us all. The air we breath is breathed by all. What’s next, eh? Plant gardens, collect rainwater, dig swales, do the do. It is our foremost solution. And by the way, attend the next town council meeting and speak your heart.
